Amanda Townsend

Class:

1999

Memory:

Hey what's up? I remember the construction of the new student center named for Dr. Carroll Howes and Gladys Conant. I was a member of the last graduating class of the 20th century. I remember when I graduated the principal was Gilbert D. Eaton III and superintendent of schools was David Pierce. Debbie Mooney taught special education at the school when I went and still does. I had Shirley Austin for Origins class; Hal Watson for History and homeroom grade 10; Mr. Charles Neilsen was english teacher and was not in the news for his son's issue. Nash's store was replaced by Ellis' Variety (and later gas station combo), and was a cool hangout. Every kid in the school had the last name Ellis or Cox. The althetic director drove a pink/white/purple sidekick. Nobody in the gym ever wanted to sing the school song or we've got spirit (class of 97). School assemblies, snow days and gym were among easy excuses for getting out of classes. I never got detention in high school so I've always wondered what detention was like because I've heard stories about kids who were trouble and did get detention. I was not a geek or nerd or outkast but I didn't have many friends at the same time. I had a few friends though. Child development with Karen Phair was my favorite class in h.s. dispite having failed it due to an abuse alert on the crying baby's monitor. My favorite subjects in h.s. were english, origins, computers with Leo Houle grade 9 but not Mavis Beacon i hate that program however i did learn to type i can't complain; history with Hal Watson in part because history class aside, he'd go into stories about wrestling or that jar of chewing gum he kept (from god only knows how many years ago) and added more pieces off desks or from students when he caught them chewing in class.
